Exercise makes a difference

Exercise is very instrumental in staying mentally healthy. Although some days I struggle at the gym (I'm sure this is normal), staying active is now routine for me.

Since February, I've been going to the gym at least four days a week. I started very slow. For the first month, I walked about 45 minutes on the treadmill and then did a few arm or leg exercises. As I became more comfortable, I started to run and spend a little more time lifting weights.

If I miss a day, it bugs me. I feel like I cheated myself. It's a lot easier to eat junk when I haven't worked my butt off on the treadmill.

In May, I picked my workout routine up a notch. I hired Chris Cieciorka as my personal trainer. Chris and his wife own and operate The Rock Fitness Center in Altamont, IL.

Chris has pushed me physically and mentally. I always tell people that he pushes you, but doesn't kill you. Reaching goals are a little easier when someone is pushing you and holding you accountable.

There are times I haven't met my weekly goals. Chris asks the tough questions, even though he already knows the answers. It's tough being straight with him knowing you ate a cheeseburger, fries and unlimited refills at McDonalds two times last week.

In July, I struggled with shin splints and also let my mind rule me. I couldn't complete a training an entire training session. Chris worked with me. He encouraged me. He pushed me.

He cares and wants you to succeed. Thanks Chris.

Take baby steps if you need too...Start exercising today...Do more than you did yesterday.
