There is hope; never give up

Approximately 20-years ago, I had the privilege of appearing on the Oprah television program - with

my sister Angela - on a difficult topic.

Our father, an attorney, had committed suicide in September of 1993, and Oprah was producing a program on suicide among professionals. My sister and I wound up being incidental guests on the program and spent most of our time in the studio audience. Perhaps the most significant primary guest on Oprah's show that day was the late Charley Pell, a prominent college football coach, who had battled depression and who later courageously helped spread the message that depression is a treatable illness. ... [My father, F. Ronald Ealy, had struggled with alcoholism for decades (combined with bipolar disorder) and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound while under the influence of alcohol at the age of 58]. ... This 20-second sound clip was recorded during the closing moments of Oprah's program, which aired nationally in 1995.

Oprah Winfrey and her staff did a commendable job of covering this difficult topic.
