Talk to others

It is very typical and natural to keep your feelings suppressed. This is very common for men. For me talking with others about my depression was very difficult, especially in the beginning. As I continue to struggle and recover from depression, it is getting easier to talk about it.

I still feel odd talking about my depression at times and feel "weak" even though I'm not. Talking about weakness isn’t something people like to talk about. It’s even more difficult to open up if you have been betrayed or confidentiality has been broken.

Once trust has been compromised it is hard to repair. Finding someone to trust and share with will not only give you an opportunity to open up, but may give the other person a chance to share with you.

Also, for me it has been very beneficial for me to help others that might be going through a low time or battling depression. This book is one of those ways. Month after month I struggled to put into words my feelings and how I pulled myself out of the depths of depression.

Most people don't want to put themselves in an area of vulnerability. Beginning the conversation is difficult, but sharing your story might be what another person struggling needs to hear.

After I began to share with others, countless people came up to me and said if they knew my struggles

they could have helped me because they struggled through the darkness of depression.

Don't be afraid to talk to others about depression. As I began to open up, I discussed depression with other men who had walked where I walked. They understood and offered great strategies and assistance to me.

Talk to other...but don't feel like you have to tell everyone your story.
